Here is brief summary of the information presented at our first General Meeting:
Paso Robles Public Educators (PRPE)
General Meeting August 21, 2009 Bearcat Hall 1pm
Welcome and Introductions
Good News
- No suspension of Prop 98 (All sections of law remain in effect)
- Ironclad agreement to pay back COLA deficit. (State must repay the full $11.2 B)
- No more layoffs for this year (District must file notices for next year by 3/15)
- Received a 2% increase on the schedule last year.
Challenges
- State budget update (this year will also be bad and there is already a deficit)
- Most recent cuts (See the district website.)
- Classroom situations/contract (Remember to file claim forms for moving.)
- Possible district proposals (Listed in the district 09-10 Fiscal Solvency Plan)
Proactive response
- Community outreach/Service Learning (See reverse side)
- Affiliate communication (See reverse side)
- National: Healthcare reform/NCLB reauthorization/Stimulus- Federal stimulus has mitigated a small portion of the cuts, but will run out at the end of this year. No Child Left Behind (NCLB) will be reauthorized next year and there will be major changes. More on this later.
