PRPE Rep Council & Executive Board Meeting minutes - October 2019

    Present: F. Kloepper (President, Web, Liberty); J. Lynett (Executive Director); S. Whedbee-Silva (Corresponding Secretary, King); D. Harris (Recording Secretary, Peterson); S. Wilder (Representative, VP); S. Walker (TK-5 Vice President, PB); J. Hutchings (Treasurer, FMS); B. Boddington (Representative, SPED); C. Bradshaw ( Representative, PRHS); S. Hamilton (Representative, FMS); M. Flickinger (Representative, Alt. Ed); N. Mayer (Membership Chair, PB); J. Martinez (Negotiations, PRHS)

    I Approval of minutes from the September Meeting

    • Motion to approve June minutes: Approved (Susan W./Melissa F.)

    • Corrections: district reserve from 2.65% to 2.68%; removed Tim Gearhart’s name as a guest, he was not present

    II Treasurer’s Reports: John Hutchings

    • Motion to approve June’s Treasurer’s Report: Approved (Susan W./Carli B.)

    III Membership Chair – Nancy Mayer (Email list, Membership Drive)

    • Has a list of members

    • Cannot vote for ratification if not a union member

    • Gave out site member’s lists and membership cards

    IV REMEMBER TO KEEP TRACK OF YOUR TIMESHEETS, OFFICERS.

    V. Unfinished business/Updates

    a) Negotiations (General Meeting 10/7/19)

    • See notes from general meeting

    • Reached a tentative agreement, voting begins 10/8/19

    b) Grievances (Nicole V, Elementary PE)

    • Nicole’s grievance at level 5 was rejected, will discontinue grievance process

    • Elementary PE grievance at level 4

    c) 6-12 Issues – Melissa Flickinger

    • Concerns about newcomers and lack of support at Flamson; teacher met with Curt Dubost and principal; Flamson has become “Designated New Comer” school without teachers knowing; no bilingual para/teachers to support newcomers; not getting support from the district office admin.; Superintendent was receptive to concerns; positions being flown; concerns about the inequity between the 2 middle schools and the newcomer support; concerns about numbers of Dual Immersion numbers entering from Georgia Brown and needing bilingual teachers, paras, etc.

    • Concerns about ELD students at the high school not receiving SDAIE classes; students are failing in regular English classes

    d) TK-5 Issues – Stephenie Walker

    • Concerns regarding TK-3 prep

    e) Digital Newsletter – Susan Whedbee

    • Bill for $168 for Digitial Newsletter annual renewal

    • Motion to approve payment: Approved (Fred. K./Bernadette B.)

    f) PAR Report/Website - Fred

    • Nobody currently in PAR

    VI.New Business

    a) SPED Task Force (10/2/19)

    • Oct. 28 at 3:30 for next elementary task force meeting at the D.O.

    • Bernadette will contact teachers and invite them to join the meeting

    • Task force's purpose is to make systemic changes in the way services are being delivered and deciding on solutions to remedy SPED issues and concerns; wants to use MOU’s

    • Wants to include SPED teachers, gen ed teachers, admin.,etc

    b) Student Discipline Changes and Wellness Rooms

    • Joseph Williams in charge of this and its implementation

    • Wellness rooms have been implemented, but there are some concerns

    c) Newcomers at Flamson

    • Will be following up on these concerns noted above in V.c.

    d) Elementary VAPA/PE Issues

    • Not enough paras to support VAPA teachers

    e) New Teachers Credentials

    • Need more information on new teachers’ credentials

    VII.Reports from Building Reps:

    Officers

    • First District Budget Committee meeting Oct. 24 @ 5:30 at the D.O.

    • Everyone allowed and participation is welcome

    • The PRPE Executive board positions available in December: 6-12 VP, Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary, Treasurer

    • Ratification voter’s election starts tomorrow, Oct. 8 and ends Wednesday, Oct. 16
