Negotiations Update - September 29, 2011

Your Negotiations Team met with the District Representatives (Ruben Canales, Steve Campbell, and Roman Munoz – representing attorney) on Thursday, September 29 for a full day.

PRPE proposed to keep the contract the same as last year, including the same Health Benefits Cap. This proposal was rejected by the District. The District proposal that includes up to a 4% salary decrease including up to 8 furlough days is available from the most recent district negotiations email.

Your PRPE Negotiations Team wants you to be fully informed during the bargaining process so…..

Do you know teachers have the lowest Health Benefits Cap of any employee group in the district and therefore, the highest out of pocket salary deductions?

The Health Benefits Caps are as follows:

    CSEA (Classifed) – $9950               Administration - $9622

    Certificated (Teachers, Counselors) – $9,392

The cost to raise the Cap for certiicated is approximately $167,400.

Do you know that some administrators have received an ongoing annual 5% longevity bonus for 10 years of service and another 5% ongoing annual longevity bonus for 15 years of service? That includes years served outside of this district.

The cost for these longevity bonuses is approximately $159,495. The amount of the longevity bonuses is approximately equal to the cost to raise our Health Benefits Cap to last year’s level.

Do you know that there has been inflation in the last 3 years but you have not had a Cost of Living Adjustment, which means you have taken a pay cut?

Do you know that increased class size equates to another pay cut?

Do you know the District hired 18 new certificated employees when the District is in flat or declining enrollment?

Do you know that the Administration insists the evaluation procedure has not changed and therefore, does not need to be negotiated?

A more detailed explanation from your PRPE site rep. will be coming next week.

Do you know that District test scores continue to rise but your compensation continues to decrease?

    WHAT CAN YOU DO??????
